Welcome Back, Pack 744!
We hope you and your families have had a fun, adventurous, and relaxing summer! As we gear up for another exciting year of Cub Scouting, don’t forget to renew your Scout’s registration if you haven’t already. We can’t wait to see all our returning Scouts — and to welcome many new ones, too!
East Side Veterans Parade
Tuesday, November 11th during school day
East Side Elementary School
Scouts will be carrying the flags during the parade (Parents are not required).
November Pack Meeting
Tuesday, November 11th 5:30-6:30
McFarlane Nature Park, 280 Farm Rd. SE, Marietta, GA 30068
(across from the Top Hat Soccer Fields)
We'll see you at McFarlane Nature Park where we will be working on Geocaching and Orienteering. There is a gravel road you drive on to get there and parking is at the end of the road.
The scouts will be navigating the field in the twilight, so it will be helpful to have flashlights!
If possible, bring your six essentials (see link). Don't make a special trip to buy things if you don't have them handy, but it is something we take on hikes to be prepared! They are: a filled water bottle, a small first aid kit (maybe from our last meeting), a whistle, a flashlight, sun protection, and a snack.
OPTIONAL (but recommended): a pen
OPTIONAL (but recommended): a compass, if you have one
OPTIONAL (but recommended): a smartphone or GPS device
Geocaching is a fun treasure hunt in nature that makes use of GPS devices to help find the treasure. If you are unfamiliar with the idea, you can read the tips for newbies (see link). You will need to share a smartphone or GPS device. If you are using a smartphone, please download the Geocaching app and sign up for a FREE account (they also have paid accounts, see link for details). When you find a cache, you will need to sign your name to the log, so you may want a pen, and if there are fun toys inside that you would like to take, you should bring one to exchange. These include small toys and trinkets (like Scout-themed items, LEGO minifigures, bouncy balls, key chains, erasers, marbles or cool stones, mini compasses or caribiners, bracelets, toy cars, pins, etc.). Please don't leave food, candy, sharp items, glass, money, or things that won't survive heat/rain.
